Once again the BAPO Conference committee are working on an exciting range of speakers and events. Well I think we have all recovered from the BAPO Conference in Telford and I think the biggest surprise from the weekend was the arrival of some frozen precipitation. We all awoke on the Friday miring to find that the town of Telford was covered in about 8 inches of snow but this did not dampen the spirits of the attendees to the Technical programme.
This year the Technician element of conference was moved to the Friday and this was a great success with the largest audience ever at the Technical Programme. The standard of speakers was also great and this led to a very interesting and informative programme. We must thank OETT for sponsoring lunch for the attendees and speakers and given the prices of the concessions stands in the conference centre this was very welcome for the attendees.
Before lunch we had a very interesting forum about the differences between in house units and contractors and the benefits and disadvantages of central fab units. It was also interesting to hear from a former technician who is now undertaking the clinician course at Salford. The afternoon session was almost as busy as the morning session and after the speakers were finished we were enjoyed a small liquid refreshment courtesy of our friends at Algeos. The main exhibition opened up and it was good to see great range of products and materials on show from the companies selling in the UK.
On Saturday we woke up to yet more snow and some great clinical speakers and papers plus time to have another look at the exhibition stands. A special mention has to go to Craig Payne, one of the Key Note speakers who traveled all the way from La Trobe University Melbourne to Telford to find the place covered in snow he had even taken some pictures to send home to his kids who had never seen real snow. Hopefully Craig made it home to the sunshine down under.
Big big thanks to all the BAPO staff and committee members that worked to put together another great conference but I bet they did not bargain on the snow arrival when booking the venue.
