As a trainee, you will work closely with your designated mentor, receiving training and guidance, in the core skills and work areas, to enable you to undertake the role effectively and you will work towards completion of relevant training portfolios to demonstrate your abilities.

The nature of the role is varied so the successful candidate will maintain high standards when working to varying deadlines and when working under pressure. This is a permanent position and as standard the core working hours are 37.50 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Where you’ll work…

You will become a key member of our Production, Technical & Manufacturing Team working at our premises in the heart of the lovely Sussex town of Lewes. The vibrant and diverse City of Brighton & Hove is close by.

Your Role and Responsibilities will include…

  • producing the highest quality bespoke orthoses.
  • understanding and interpreting relevant technical instructions / patient information as set out by our Orthotists to complete the orthosis design to established procedure and timescales.
  • performing negative cast adaption, alteration, blocking, filling and stripping.
  • Performing positive plaster cast rectifications to a high standard for TLSO, KAFO, AFO, FO, EO and WHO plaster casts.
  • assisting our team of technicians in other departments with tasks such as drape moulding/vacuum forming various plastic materials, this shall include drawing, cutting-off, and shaping the plastic orthoses ready for fabrication.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Ideally, we are looking for an experienced technician or a non-practicing orthotist who wishes to apply their knowledge and skills towards production and manufacturing. You shall have experience with plaster cast rectification, to ensure the highest possible quality orthoses are produced for our complex patients and users.  Experience in, or a passionate interest in the use of alternative technologies using scanned digital images, carbon/composite & 3D printing would be a distinct advantage.
